    What's actually happening.

Mercury announced the closure on 30 June 2026, and the wind-down is expected to take up to nine months. NOW has been part of Hawke's Bay since 2002, and around 70 people are losing their jobs over it. What happens next depends on which kind of customer you are.

    If you're at home

Your account moves onto Mercury broadband automatically. You don't have to do a thing — which is exactly why it's worth a moment's thought.

    If you're a business

Mercury isn't taking NOW's business accounts on. Around 3,000 businesses need to choose a new provider.

What we'd do for you →

    Still independent, still local.

Independent since 2008, running our own network and answering our own phones. The things people liked about NOW haven't stopped existing — they're just somewhere else now.

    No parent company

Not owned by a telco or a power company. No shareholders, and no parent company that could decide our future from a boardroom somewhere else.

    We answer the phone

Our team's in Gisborne. Support 7 days, 8am–8pm — leave a message and we'll call back inside the hour.

    No contract

Open term, no exit fees. If we stop being worth staying with, you should be able to leave.

    Static IP included

Free on every fibre plan. Cameras, remote access and VPNs keep working. More on our free static IP.

If you're one of the 3,000 businesses.

You didn't ask for this and you can't sit it out — Mercury isn't taking business accounts on. So the least we can do is make choosing us the easy part.

    Static IP, no add-on

Free on every plan. EFTPOS, alarm monitoring, site-to-site VPN and remote access all keep their fixed endpoint.

    Support that picks up

Seven days, 8am–8pm, callback inside the hour. An SLA is available on request.

    A cutover on your terms

We plan the changeover around your operating hours and work to eliminate downtime, not just keep it short.

    Switching? We handle it.

    Common questions

    What this means for you.

Do I have to do anything?

If you're a home customer, no — your account will be migrated to Mercury automatically. Which is exactly why it's worth a moment's thought: doing nothing means someone else chooses your provider for you.

If you're a business customer, yes. Mercury isn't taking NOW's business accounts on, so you'll need to pick a new provider.

    When is this happening?

Mercury announced the closure on 30 June 2026 and said the wind-down would take up to nine months, which puts the end somewhere around March 2027.

No firm cut-off date has been published, and NOW will be in touch with its own customers about timing. There's no rush on our account — but if you'd rather choose than be moved, earlier is easier than later.

What about my @nownz.co.nz email address?

Worth sorting early, because email is usually the fiddliest part of any switch — it's tied to logins, bills and everyone who's ever contacted you.

Give us a ring and we'll talk you through the options, including moving to an address you'll keep control of regardless of who provides your internet. We can give you a hand with the setup.

I'm a business customer — is my situation different?

Yes, and more pressing. Home accounts move to Mercury by default; business accounts don't. Around 3,000 businesses need to choose a new provider before NOW winds down.

We'll plan the cutover around your operating hours and work to eliminate downtime rather than just keep it brief. Static IP is included on every plan, and an SLA is available on request.

Will I be without internet while I switch?

Not if we can help it. A fibre-to-fibre switch is usually straightforward, with little or no interruption — the connection stays up and the account changes hands.

Where there's any risk of a gap, we'll tell you before we start and plan around it rather than hope for the best.

Am I locked into anything with NOW?

Worth checking your terms — some plans carry a fixed term and an early exit fee. Tell us what you find and we'll work around it, including timing our start for when your term ends.

We don't lock anyone in at our end. Open term, no exit fees.

    Do you cover my address?

We provide fibre nationwide on the Chorus network — the same infrastructure the large providers use — so most New Zealand addresses are covered, Hawke's Bay included.

Check your address above and we'll confirm in a few seconds.

    Rather talk it through first?

Nothing to commit to. Ring us and ask — the timing, what it'd cost, what happens to your email address. A real person answers, and they'll take as long as you need.
