If you're in our region, an Evolution Wireless tech installs your new SIP phone — usually 15–30 minutes. Outside the region, we ship a pre-configured handset overnight with simple plug-in instructions.
Yes, almost always. We'll port your number across from your current provider. The process usually takes 5–10 working days and we handle the paperwork. Your number works the whole time — there's no cutover where you're unreachable.
Probably yes — you'll want a SIP-capable VoIP phone (corded or cordless). They're well-priced and look just like a regular phone. We'll help you pick something that suits your setup, or you can buy your own — we just need to know the model so we can configure it.
Yes. The 2talk softphone app turns your mobile into an extension of your office line. Customers ring your business number and your mobile rings — no need to give out your personal number. Works over wifi or mobile data.
Your VoIP service relies on your internet, so a broadband outage means no calls (until it's back up). Two safety nets: 1) calls can auto-forward to a mobile number whenever your VoIP is unreachable — set this up once and forget it; 2) for businesses, we can configure failover to a second internet connection (e.g. a 4G backup).
It works on any decent internet connection — fibre, wireless, or VDSL. You don't need to be with us for broadband to use our VoIP, though obviously we'd love both. A typical voice call uses about 100 kbps, so even a basic plan handles a few simultaneous calls without trouble.
Same number, same way of using it. The big differences: it's cheaper, and the features are more powerful (voicemail-to-email, auto-attendant, multiple devices on one number).
Limitations: needs internet and power, doesn't work for 111 in a power cut, and a tiny number of alarm/medical-alert systems aren't compatible. We'll flag any issues before you switch.
Yes. Available as add-ons on Solo and above, or included on the larger Business plans. Inbound minutes to your toll-free number can be added in bundles.
It's a phone system for your business that lives on the internet instead of in a metal box on your wall. Lets you have multiple lines, extensions, hold music, ring groups, voicemail-to-email, call queues, recording, and so on. Available on the Business plan and up.
VoIP is a prepaid service provided and billed by 2talk Limited, a NZ-based wholesale provider. We resell their service, handle the setup, and bundle it with your internet. For day-to-day support — call quality issues, voicemail problems, fault reports — you'll go straight to 2talk; they've got direct visibility into the system.
2talk support: 09 281 4357 (Mon–Fri 9am–5pm) or via their support portal.
We're still here for anything connection-related, billing questions about your EW account, and helping you choose the right plan. If you're not sure whether something's a VoIP issue or an internet issue, just give us a ring and we'll work it out.
The catch is real: VoIP doesn't work in a power outage, which means 111 emergency calls won't connect. For most homes and businesses that's a fine trade-off — there's almost always a charged mobile nearby. If you want extra peace of mind, we can supply a UPS that keeps your phone and internet running for up to 12 hours without power.
Tell us your number, what you use it for, and how many lines you need. We'll size up the right plan and have you sorted within a few business days.
